When I started doing Original CrossFit™ back in 2015 it was exciting! It was the era of legends such as Rich Froning and Lukas Parker. Strength and Endurance Combined!
CF back then was all about training to get fit for life outside of the gym. Froning refused to pay affiliate fee and just worked out in his barn or at a local gym doing CF workouts. What a stud! 😎
Even as we were signed up with a CF affiliate “box” and class schedules, me and my friends often picked our own workouts for the day. Most coaches was supportive and encouraged you to take ownership and find your own paths. Back then the focus was to get you fit for life outside of the gym. I worked out with fire fighters, SWAT cops etc. CF was perfect training for them.
And every weekend we were hungry to try a new HERO workout or benchmark workout. For example: “Fighting Gone Bad”. A runner tracks his pace and split times. A CF athlete tracks his benchmark workout times and heavy lifts!
When I built my own garage gym; it initially had only two things: A barbell I could load up to 135 lb and running distances measured out from my driveway and back. 200m, 400m, 800m. My first cardio machine was a Concept2 rower! ❤ CF was a natural part of my life: Eat, Sleep, Grind, Work!
Froning posted a video showing him doing CF while travelling and using his truck for box jumps — The coolest thing ever! // The beach is perfect for running and burpees!
Sadly this era is gone!
All the elites have long left the box affiliates and doing their own thing now. I was tempted to become an Hybrid Athlete and just doing my own thing too. The affiliates no longer forge elite fitness (or claim the slogan). The programming is scientifically bad and instead of fixing it the boxes started selling pickleball BBQ potlucks with yoga for maternity and inclusivity…
…But I’m bringing it back and getting people together again! I’m bringing back THE GRIND!

With a friend of yours, find a gym that has "open gym hours" and all the basic CF equipment (OR come join me - 1PM weekdays) - Cost: 50/m = Save $100!
